Narrative-driven games usually have a very strong lore, which basically sets the tone for the overall gameplay experience. However, having a deep-rooted lore for a battle-royale game is kind of an oddity, but SuperGaming’s Indus is still going down that path.
SuperGaming’s Indus Battle Royale is an upcoming battle-royale title being fully developed in India for mobile, PC, and console. We recently also got to play a pre-alpha build of the game and also got to speak with the CEO of SuperGaming, Roby John, about what his vision is for the title.
While there is the whole concept of Indo-Futurism in place, the lore behind the game is one of its most exciting aspects. The game is set in the distant future where it will aim to explore the origins of the planet Indus, which was once the home to the ancient race of Yaksha, the first ever intergalactic explorers.
You, as a player, will be playing the role of a ‘Mythwalker’ who is on the hunt for a rare resource called ‘Cosmium’, which was instrumental in the advancement of the Yaksha civilization. But, a unknown tragedy befell the Yaksha and Indus was permanently covered in an unknown mist-looking thing which is referred to as ‘Nirvana’. Since that happened, no one knows what happened on Indus and where did the Yaksha’s vanish.
Now, years later, an intergalactic stronghold called COVEN has gained access to one of Indus’s last remaining portals, which is basically the only way to access the planet. However this portal only leads to a belt of mysterious floating islands slightly above the cover of Nirvana. Interestingly, these islands are also where Cosmium is found and the first plae where the game will take place is on a location called ‘Virlok’.
Despite COVEN gaining access to all this, Virlok is still uninhabitable and no organic matter can survive there due to Nirvana. This is where the Mythwalkers which are basically skins/ artificial bodies controlled by their real counterparts who can enter Virlok without dying.
Cosmuim, which is what the Mythwalkers are looking for, is another mystery. The resource is endless capabilities which could alter the fate of the entire galaxy and put COVEN in a position of unlimited power if they gain access to it. The origins and use of the same are still unknown.
So far, the lore looks really strong and it also has a very original storyline. The COVEN does resemble something like the Empire from Star Wars, but still has a lot more to explore. However, there are still so many unanswered questions regarding the setting, story, and the characters of the game. Thankfully, the game’s ‘Loremaster’, Ankush Nishad, assured us that all the burning questions will be answered once the game is released and some bigger ones will be answered as it progresses every season.
We also got the chance to speak with the Game Director for Indus, Jwalant Gangwar, and get an in-depth look at what we could expect in the game. The interview will be out soon so keep watching this space for more.
